Time for a change

Casey, d’Entremont, Streatch dealt biggest promotions in cabinet shuffle

New faces are at the top of government’s three biggest departments as Premier Rodney MacDonald reworked his cabinet Wednesday ahead of an expected election this spring.

Wednesday’s cabinet shuffle also means government’s long-promised climate change action plan, which had been set for release Friday, is likely on hold again while new Environment Minister David Morse gets up to speed on the background.

Bear left Spurrs in ecstasy

I HAVE A VERY good mother-in-law situation, one that got even better when Kath’s mom, Fran, announced that she wanted to take us all to dinner before she headed to Florida for the winter and that we could choose any restaurant we wanted. The invitation was barely out of her mouth before BJ and I both shouted: “Bear!”

Probably no chef in this part of the country has earned as much notoriety over the past few years as Ray Bear, formerly of gio in the Prince George Hotel. Like most extremely talented people, Bear is aware of his ability, but I have never found him even remotely arrogant, so I doubt he is responsible for the puffery on the restaurant’s website, where it says, “He is not only a chef; he is a genre,” among other things.
