Did you get your winter tires on yet?

Post your thoughts.

I use all season and use common sense in my driving. With good all season tires on and proper and safe driving habits then you can get through most things. But after what happened at the Cob Pass I just might go back to winters. In all my years of driving in winter through Folly and Wentworth I never seen that road closed and yes I used all season tires then as well and was out in some really bad storms. Its adjust to the conditions because even if you have winter tires on you can and will still get stuck, off the road and fender bender as well.

All this talk about having winter tires...from what I can see on the streets of HRM, if you can't drive with common sense in good conditions having snow tires on your car won't save you from an accident. I have used good all-season tires for the last 6 years and adjusted my driving to the conditions - it's not rocket science but sometimes I think it might as well be.

On secpnd thought I will just avoid that pass like I always do and continue through Folly and Wentworth even if it means an extra 20 mins. After all the scenery is way better and the roads are better also.

I'm impatiently waiting for it to become law in the province to have to use snow tires, as much as I hate to see everything legislated. But since people are lacking in common sense, one has to take care of the idiots. All season tires are misnamed and that should be the first thing changed--they are actually 3 season tires--certainly 'all season' in the southern states or areas that don't get snow. Snow tires are made of a totally different compound which makes them much safer in snow. It's easily researched, it's obvious when you're driving, and it doesn't cost any more to have 2 sets of tires since you're using each set 6 months of the year. We live in snow country, buy snow tires! If you want to kill yourself, that's up to you--but I don't want to follow or meet you on the roads if you're driving with 'three season' tires. Just as seat belts save lives, so do winter tires.

I drive an "environment-killing" 4X4 (GASP!!) with all terrain tires. (And yeah, it spends plenty of time off pavement too.) If it wasn't for the morons in little cars with all season tires and only the drivers side of the windshiled cleared of snow getting stuck in front of me, I'd love driving in this weather.

shakyweebles wrote on November 22, 2008 01:51PM (IP Logged)

Its not us morons with all season but the morons who think because they have winter tires on that they can go fast anyway. All drivers need to slow down no matter what tires they have and no matter what vechile espically these MORONS that have 4 wheel drive and think Hey I can anyway I want. Seen more of those morons in the ditch in winter with their snow tires on than ones with just all seaon tires and only 2 wheel drive.

I live in the city and only use all seasons. If the roads are bad I walk if I really need to go somewhere. I walk to work no matter what the weather is. So therefore there is no need for me to spend money on winter tires. So I guess I'm one of those idiots who wouldn't!!!

I use all seasons and good common sense when driving though I try to avoid driving in snow conditions. The last time I did drive in snowy conditions with most of Halifax in a gridlock , it was not those driving with all seasons who were the problem, it was those driving with winter tires and four wheel drive vehicles that were getting stuck and thus holding up the traffic. It appears such drivers have mush for brains and do not drive for the conditions.
