Do you think it was fair game for the Conservatives, who say they were invited by mistake, to record and release audio of an NDP strategy session?

Post your thoughts.

Even though I voted NDP in the last election I do think its fair. Layton has no one but himself to blame ,but will lay it on someone else for sure, for getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar.Jack there be an old saying play with fire you get burned well looks to me like you done held the flame on this one. As for sueing try it your just going to lose is all because after all the person who taped it did receive an email asking him/her to be there. So Jack get a grip open up and say ahhhhhhhhh sorry Canada.I still think that here in Canada we need to elect not only our local rep but then elect seperatly the head or leader.

Yes the NDP made a mistake ( and we make more of then each time we vote for this silly party) but right is right. This is not so called professional sports where you take advantage of ( deliberately injure )every possibility. There is supposed to be leadership, but sadly there is very little evidence of this). All parties need to consider the country and therefore it's citizens as a priority in their quest for power.

It shows how desperate the Conservatives really are. It's not ethical or legal. In these circumstances, how the media are governed prevails. Any broadcast journalist knows that even if you are legitimately invited, you must idetify yourself, declare your intent to tape a conversation, even if it is not intended to be broadcast to a wider audience. The Conservatives crossed a line. This is government? Seems like a bunch of outlaws to me.

It'll be interesting to see how much of a big deal the media will make of this one. Layton was caught red-handed and if the shoe were on the other foot, the media would have a field day with this one.

The liberals, leftists, socialists, and separatists lost the last election. Get over it.

pensive, The liberals, leftists, socialists, and separatists got 61.2% of the vote combined, vs the Conservatives 37%. Your claim that the conservatives won the election stinks of ignorance.

I would rather the Conservatives had not released this tape. I feel like I am watching our leaders roll around in the gutter brawling.

As for whether or not they had the right to release it, they certainly did if the person recording it was there by invitation, mistakenly or otherwise. If he was not there by invitation, it's a criminal offence to either make the tape or publish it.

NSPRIDE, did Paul Martin have a legitimate government after his last minority, considerting that he did not have 50% + 1% of the vote ?? Your comment is nonsense.

nspride wrote on December 01, 2008 12:50PM (IP Logged)

pensive, no Paul martin did not have 50+1. The Conservatives at that time could have tried to make a coalition government as well, except they won't work with anybody else, it is their unwillingness to cooperate that is engineering their downfall. I never said Harper didn't have a legitimate government, he does, but the opposition bringing his government down and forming a coalition is just as legitimate, and at the same time more representative of what most people voted for.

Gee, 36% say it's alright. What percent of the vote did the cons get in the last election? Coincidence?
