MLAs’ pensions 'gold-plated'

Only way to justify lucrative packages is low annual salaries, compensation expert says


Nova Scotians can now get an idea of what Freedom 55 might mean for their MLAs.

The province is posting pension information on its website, a commitment that a committee of MLAs made almost two years ago.

28,709 cast municipal e-votes

Voters clicked from 30 countries, 28 U.S. states, 50 Canadian towns


Technology has already come out a winner in the Halifax city hall election.

In an advance e-voting poll held Saturday through Monday, 28,709 people voted over the Internet or by phone.

A former metro man jailed in British Columbia faces criminal charges on both sides of the country, and on top of all that, he’s supposed to be dead.

Jeremy Daniel Oakley, 36, allegedly faked his death four years ago to escape justice. He’s facing child pornography and marijuana possession charges in Nova Scotia and sex-related charges in B.C.
